這是《大話西游》中最經(jīng)典的臺詞，英譯出自《瘋狂英語》創(chuàng)始人李陽之手。表面看出現(xiàn)了復(fù)合句，似乎有些累贅，但是朗讀起來卻瑯瑯上口。其實正是那幾個復(fù)合句體現(xiàn)出了原文的意境。

第一句中的…when it was too late這句是表伴隨的狀語從句，而并非時間狀語從句（不能理解為“當(dāng)……時”，而應(yīng)理解為“……而……”）；

最后一句“If our love had to be set a time limit, I wish it would be ten thousand years!”是一種虛擬語氣的用法，表示“要是…….就好了”，if條件狀語從句的時態(tài)要用一般過去時，而后面的主句則應(yīng)為過去將來時。
